1. Competitions will be held on a monthly basis (excluding January) in the following categories:
  Subject Sections Open Sections
     Mono Prints      Mono Prints
     Colour Prints      Colour Prints
Projected Images (Digital)      Projected Images (Digital)
2. Entries eligible for the Open competition include any subject treated pictorially (i.e. embodying the elements of good design, arrangement or composition) and which reflects the personal interpretation of the author, including creative and experimental techniques and derivations, providing that there is in all cases a photographic base.
3. Entries eligible for the relevant Subject competition include any entry meeting the definition prescribed and published beforehand by the Competition Officer. Should any dispute arise as to the eligibility of any entry, the Competition Officer (or in his/her absence the chairman of the meeting at which the competition is held) will be the final arbitrator.
4. Only financial members are eligible to enter monthly competitions.
5. All images entered must be the work of the member and must not be more than 12 months old, counting from the date the image was initially captured, as at the competition date.  With digital images, the subject of the image must be part of the original capture, and not added using an image manipulation program.
6. Eligible members may submit a maximum of 4 images in any one month, and a maximum of 1 image in any competition section.
7. Whilst reasonable care will be taken with entries submitted, the Club will not accept responsibility for any loss or damage.
8. Any entry, which in the opinion of the Competition Director, is likely to cause damage to any other entry or the Club's equipment, will be excluded from competition.
9. Print entries must be tabled before 7:15pm on Competition Night.  Digital images for the Projected Images sections must be uploaded to the website using the "My Competition Images" page by midnight on the Friday preceding the competition night.  See below for image preparation guidelines.
10. Images presented in one section or competition will not be accepted in other sections or competitions.
Note: film slides and digital images will be judged together as a single section of projected images.
11. Entries having only minor variations from those entered previously by the same author will not be accepted.
12. Any projected image which is identical to a print entered previously by the same author, or any print which is identical to a projected image entered previously by the same author, will not be accepted.
13. Any entry of an image copied from a book or any other printed material or work of art (thus infringing copyright) will be disqualified and could lead to the member's disqualification from the Club.
14. Each entry will be scored out of 20 points. At present a short-cut method of scoring is being used.  Scores are still out of 20, but a restricted number of scores can be given, as follows:

First 18 points
Second 17 points
Third 16 points
Merit 15 points
All others 13 points

The member's cumulative annual score towards Club awards will be based on the highest 9 out of a possible 11 monthly scores in each section.

PRINTS

15. Prints, both mono and colour, may be processed either commercially or by the author.
16. 16.1 Monochrome prints include any photograph/print containing shades of only one colour.  If toning is carried out, it must be over the whole photograph/print.  Partial toning and/or the addition of one extra colour are NOT acceptable in the monochrome section.
16.2 Colour prints include any photograph/print that is not a monochrome print, and as such includes a monochrome photograph or print that has been partially toned or had colour(s) added.
17. All prints must be mounted. They should have no protruding parts on the back, and the overall thickness (backing plus print plus mat if any) must not exceed 7mm. This is so they will fit into the channels used to hold them on the screens.
18. The back of each print submitted must bear, in the top left-hand corner, the author's name, title, competition section entered and area of the mat window (expressed in square centimetres).  Where the entry comprises multiple mat windows, the area specified shall be the sum of the area of each window.  The author's name must NOT be visible from the front of the print.
19.
Minimum visible area: should equate to 400 square cm regardless of the chosen shape.
Maximum: should equate to 2,000 square cm (including any mount) regardless of the chosen shape. (Note that entries complying with this rule may not comply with that of other competitions which have a maximum size of 40cm x 50cm including any mount).

PROJECTED IMAGES

20. Projected images are digital, and are to be submitted as a JPG file, via the club website as described in rule 9 above.  The recommended colour space is sRGB.
21. Digital image files should be sized according to the parameters shown on the  My Competition Images page on the website. These may vary from time to time to suit the club's equipment.  The website upload mechanism will not accept files which do not fit the specified criteria.
22. When uploading digital files, the filename is irrelevant.  You need only enter a title for the image (optional), which should be exactly as you would want it to appear when projected.  The system already knows who you are via your login, and you nominate the section when uploading the image.
  IMAGE OF THE YEAR COMPETITIONS
23. All works accepted into any monthly Mono Print, Colour Print or Projected Image competition held during the competition year will be eligible for entry into the respective Image of the Year Competition for that medium (eg. entries accepted into any monthly Mono Print competition, whether in Subject or Open section, will be eligible for entry into the Mono Print of the Year Competition.)
24. All work entered in any Image of the Year Competition in accordance with rule 23, must be the same piece of work as entered in the original monthly competition (i.e. reprints or remounting with a mount of a different colour, shape or dimension to the original entry are NOT permitted.)
25. Each member may submit a maximum of two (2) eligible entries in each section of the Image of the Year Competition, although only the higher score from any two entries by the same member in a section will count towards any award for that section.
